A Massive Herodian City
Biblical Israel Ministries & Tours (BIMT) is all about teaching the Bible in the context of the land of Israel and other biblical countries (Jordan, Egypt, Turkey, Greece, and Italy). There are over 100 biblical sites in Israel alone that have been excavated. Caesarea Maritima is one of them. It was an impressive city built by Herod the Great from 22-10 BC. It was one of many other building projects going on about the same time, give or take a few years (e.g. the Jerusalem Temple, Herodium, Machaerus, Masada, Samaria/Sebaste, etc…).
There are many biblical connections with Caesarea as well. Philip was here, apparently for about 20 years (Acts 8, 21), Peter befriended Cornelius here (Acts 10). Herod’s grandson Herod Agrippa (41-44 AD) died here (Acts 12). And of course Paul was here (Acts 9, 26). At the end of his third missionary journey, he was actually here for two years before sailing to Rome.
Below you will see one of our latest YouTube Bible teachings. I want to take you there to Caesarea and show you the site over the course of about 10 minutes.
