An encouraging word from Hebrews 9
Biblical Israel Ministries & Tours (BIMT) is all about teaching the Bible in the context of the land of Israel and other biblical countries (Jordan, Egypt, Turkey, Greece, and Italy). We teach the historical geography of the Bible as well as archaeology, customs and culture of the land. We aim to make connections between the Bible and the land in all that we do.
This is another session in the new series of teaching videos called “Devotions from Israel.” This brief five-minute devotional comes from Hebrews 9. We travel to southern Israel and Timnah Park to see the full-scale model of the Tabernacle.
About the Devotional
Jesus is our prophet, priest and king. He fulfilled all these roles through His life and ministry. The priestly aspect of His ministry can especially be appreciated by walking through the full-size Tabernacle Model in Timnah Park. Located in southern Israel, the geological setting is perfect for this model.
The author of Hebrews is the author who used the Tabernacle as a way to convey Christ’s role as High Priest. Speaking of the first covenant regulations, he wrote with detail,
“Now the first covenant had regulations for worship and also an earthly sanctuary. A tabernacle was set up. In its first room were the lampstand and the table with its consecrated bread; this was called the Holy Place. Behind the second curtain was a room called the Most Holy Place, which had the golden altar of incense and the gold-covered ark of the covenant. This ark contained the gold jar of manna, Aaron’s staff that had budded, and the stone tablets of the covenant. Above the ark were the cherubim of the Glory, overshadowing the atonement cover. But we cannot discuss these things in detail now. When everything had been arranged like this, the priests entered regularly into the outer room to carry on their ministry. But only the high priest entered the inner room, and that only once a year, and never without blood, which he offered for himself and for the sins the people had committed in ignorance” (Hebrew 9:1-7).
But then he goes on to say this about Christ and His priestly role:
