An encouraging word from Habakkuk 3

Biblical Israel Ministries & Tours (BIMT) is all about teaching the Bible in the context of the land of Israel and other biblical countries (Jordan, Egypt, Turkey, Greece, and Italy). We teach the historical geography of the Bible as well as archaeology, customs and culture of the land. We aim to make connections between  the Bible and the land in all that we do.
This is another session in the new series of teaching videos called “Devotions from Israel.” This brief five-minute devotional comes from Habakkuk 3. The setting for this narrative is the Hill Country of Judah.

About the Devotional

In the midst of trials, suffering, and even loss, God’s faithfulness never fails us. When it seems as though hope is not to be found anywhere in the difficult circumstances of life, God is always there for us. We are invited to lean upon Him at all times.

Habakkuk was a late 7th century prophet, with a ministry to the Southern Kingdom of Judah. At this time, Judah was experiencing difficulty. All around the country there were areas of Judeans who abandoned God and His Law. Unfaithfulness to God led to words of warning from prophets like Habakkuk concerning this level of disobedience. On top of this, living situations were challenging. While King Josiah initiated religious reforms (bringing to an end the high places and cultic centers established around the country), the people had displayed rebellion against God and were now encountering the results of their waywardness.

On top of this, the mighty
Babylonians were beginning their strike from the north upon Judah. God used this invasion by this northern enemy as punishment for Judah’s unlawful ways. This made the daily routines of life difficult. Crops were devastated and food was scarce.
