Days 1 & 2 – Tuesday-Wednesday, September 15-16: Depart the U.S., Arrival in Thessaloniki, Greece
The day of departure finally came! God inspired a total of 52 for this “Footsteps of Paul” Biblical journey in Greece trip (with an optional extension to Rome). Using various flights, most of us experienced on-time flights to Greece, and eventually to our final destination of Thessaloniki (ancient Thessalonica). We could see the coastline of the Aegean Sea as we approached the airport, with Mt. Olympus somewhat visible (note; the pics are from other trips). We arrived at different times. We are thankful that although we incurred a few delayed flights, everyone made it to Greece today/tonight, and with all our luggage!
Thessaloniki
Thessaloniki is Greece’s second largest city (besides Athens). The wider population of the city is about one million. For these first two nights, we are staying here at the very nice Porto Palace Hotel. Some of us enjoyed a buffet dinner at 7 p.m., while others arriving later had dinner when they arrived from the airport.
We are looking forward to our first full day here in Greece tomorrow as we travel north in the footsteps of the Apostle Paul!
“Our day of departure finally arrived. We are thankful for the safe journey to northern Greece. It is also exciting to anticipate learning about the Apostle Paul and his life and ministry!”

Day 3 – Thursday, September 17: Amphipolis, Philippi, Kavala, Thessaloniki
